Sorenson Unity Center’s mission is to serve as a community
resource and gathering place where all cultures are celebrated and
welcomed. The Center enhances lives through participation in
visual and performing arts, education and community programs aimed
at improving mental and physical well-being.

MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE
TRAINING WORKSHOP
FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2012 FROM 5:00-7:00PM
Join the Utah Society for Environmental Education for a
Municipal Solid Waste K-12 Workshop. Municipal Solid Waste
Activity Guide provides lesson plans and resources to teach
students about trash, recycling, composting, and more.
Teachers will receive a curriculum guide, Pre and Post
activities, as well as many other useful resources for free.
Teachers are paid $30 to attend!
Free and open to the public.

PEOPLE'S MARKET 3RD ANNUAL SEEDLING SALE & SWAP

Plant sellers and swappers at any level of expertise are
invited to take part in the 3rd Annual Seedling
Sale and Swap. Bring your seedlings to sell or find someone
who wants to swap with you. Wasatch Community Gardens will
be on hand with orphaned plants from their annual plant
sale. Kenya Organics will also be selling wonderful heirloom
vegetable seedlings. Everyone should bring their own boxes
and trays to carry their plants home.
There is no fee to participate and
the event is free and open to the public.

ROSALBA RUIZ DANZANTE

While residing in California, Rosalba had the
opportunity to work and perform with the Santa Barbara
Kapulli, under the direction of general captain Pedro
Espaňa Figueroa of the Mesa Quinto Sol Aztec Dance
Group. El Jefe Pedro Espaňa Figueroa, originally from
Axochiapan, Mexico gave Rosalba permission to visually
document the “coming of age” ceremonies which as she
states, “changed her life spiritually and emotionally.”
This work is a reflection of her transition from student
to a Mexican-American artist.

ECO ART /RIVER DISTRICT
EXHIBIT- APRIL 13, 2012-JUNE 1, 2012
ECO ART CELEBRATION-
THURSDAY, APRIL 26 from 3:30 PM-5:30 PM
Join us in celebrating a collection of youth art
projects from students on the west side of Salt Lake
City, grades K-6. These arts and sustainability focused
projects help youth to understand the importance of art
in their community, as they learn how to be “greener”
members of society. We are also celebrating the River
District Street Banner Kids Art Contest. Prizes will be
awarded and artwork will be displayed at the Eco-Art
Celebration.

The Center’s Performance Theatre, Gallery Lobby, Reception
Area, and Kitchen are available for rental space to the
general public, community groups, cultural organizations,
and local businesses. The space can be used for
performances, concerts, rehearsals, classes, meetings and
private events.
